- Bachelors Degree received from Southern Methodist University in 1990 with a degree in Biology and subsequently earned a medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 1996
- Dr. Holmes was trained in General Surgery at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, Washington, 1996-2002.
- He completed a basic science research fellowship in Immunology at the Virginia Mason Research Center/Benaroya Research Institute in 1999.
- Dr. Holmes completed a fellowship in Burn Surgery at the University of Washington Harborview Medical Center in 2003 and subsequently completed a Trauma/Surgical Critical Care fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania in 2005.
