Drexdal R. Pratt
Director, Division of Health Service Regulation (DHSR)
State of North Carolina
- Drexdal Pratt began his career in EMS and Emergency Services as an EMT and later a Paramedic in Stokes County. Through the years, he rose to the role of Director for the Stokes County Department of Emergency Services. He later moved to the North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services as a Regional Coordinator in 1987. By the late 1990s, Mr. Pratt became the Central Regional Supervisor responsible for much of the state office operations in 33 counties. On August 1, 2010 Drexdal Pratt became the new director if the Division of Health Service Regulation (DHSR).
- With the retirement of Bob Bailey as the Chief of the Office of EMS, Mr. Pratt was chosen to fill the vacancy. From the day of his appointment, he has always looked forward, working with stakeholders to create what is clearly one of the most advanced Emergency Medical Service state agencies in the nation. Significant advances under his leadership include development of a statewide EMS information system and electronic patient chart, overhaul of the rules to more accurately reflect the role the counties and agencies have in the provision of EMS, and the medical disaster program with the cornerstone SMAT program.
- The Burn Surge Disaster Program is a result of his efforts as well as his collaborations with others including all levels of government and local, state and federal agencies. Furthermore, his progressive and aggressive efforts to push these programs to their level of sophistication is emblematic of his ability to communicate and develop a common vision with the leading medical expertise across our state and the nation.
