From the fire that burned most of Fayetteville in 1831 to the ConAgra Foods plant explosion and Ocracoke Island fireworks explosion, both in 2009, North Carolina has witnessed its share of historical burn events. A key aspect of the Burn Disaster Project is to research such events to develop appropriate plans of action in the event of future disasters. The following is a timeline of historical burn disasters in North Carolina.
