Several other items of note include the time period; there was multiple pages of direction as to where "Fall Out Shelters" were across the city and county and developing a home fall out shelter. Furthermore, one of the news articles in the same paper included comparing this explosion to one in Wisconsin where the FBI was investigating a bombing related to the Vietnam War. (Today, we would have referred to [the Wisconsin Armory explosion] as terrorism.) Extensive investigation here concluded the problem was seepage of methane that was created by decaying garbage in a nearby city landfill. This event created significant changes in how municipal landfills were managed to include liners and monitoring gas buildup across the nation.
