Selma Explosion
A truck loaded with 30,000 pounds of munitions bound for Fort Bragg collided with a car in Selma, NC. An ambulance transported the injured to the hospital. The fire department used all of their water and all of their dry chemical to extinguish the fire. Several hours later, the fire rekindled in the wooden body of the truck and efforts were undertaken to be sure bystanders who had come to view the wreck moved away from the site. At approximately 2:30 A.M., as a car attempted to drive past the wreck, the truck exploded killing four in the car and injuring many of the bystanders.
