Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
ATLS provides a common language not only between prehospital and hospital providers but among trauma care providers around the world. The ATLS Program provides participants with a safe, reliable method for immediate management of the injured patient and the basic knowledge necessary to:
- Assess the patients condition rapidly and accurately.
- Resuscitate and stabilize the patient according to priority.
- Determine if the patient's needs exceed a facility's capacity.
- Assure that optimum care is provided and that the level of care does not deteriorate at any point during the evaluation, resuscitation or transfer process.
Accreditation
The American College of Surgeons is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
The American College of Surgeons designates this educational activity for a maximum of 5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their
participation in the activity.
Please continue to check back for upcoming ATLS Refresher Courses
The UNC Trauma Program along with the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center will be hosting an ATLS Half-Day Refresher Course. This is a refresher course for those who wish to renew their ATLS® status (required every four years). It consists of a brief update on ATLS® core content, written test, and simulated patient testing to demonstrate that knowledge and skill levels have been maintained. Persons whose ATLS® status has
expired (beyond the six-month grace period), who have not been active in trauma care, or who wish to retake the skills portions of the ATLS® Course, are directed to enroll in a full course.
The Refresher Course is limited to a maximum of 16 participants. Registration is accepted on a first-come-first-served basis. An updated ATLS® Student Manual is provided. Registration and payment must be received prior to confirmation of enrollment.
