Target Audience: Clinical providers to include Physicians, Physician Assistants, Registered Nurses, Paramedics, EMT's, Respiratory Therapists, Pharmacists, and Firefighters
The cost to attend the 2011 North Carolina Burn Disaster Symposium is $100.00. There is an early bird discount (before December 6th) of $20.00. NC Residents will receive an additional $20.00 discount. Those taking both the ABLS Provider Course and attending the symposium will receive a $20.00 discount off the cost of ABLS. You must register for the symposium to qualify for this discount. Lunch and breaks are included.
The North Carolina Burn Disaster Program will be hosting an ABLS Provider Course at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on Tuesday, December 13th prior to the 3rd Annual NC Burn Disaster Symposium. For more information on ABLS, please click here.
A Medical Disaster with a Radiation Source, how bad can it be?
Blast, burn and radiation injuries clearly follow some of the worst case scenarios we can face as a healthcare system. Injuries from radiation accidents, a "dirty bomb" or an improvised nuclear device all pose serious threats to the healthcare system.
This day long program will focus on the threat, solutions and care of the injured patient.
Course Objectives:
Upon Completion; the student will be able to:
- Discuss threats posed by radiation exposure to include personal protection strategies
- Discuss customary, contingency and crisis capacity with respect to a surge of patients
- Provide clinical care for the patient with radiation injuries
- Discuss the North Carolina, regional and national capacities for patients with these injuries
- Discuss radiation sicknes, radiation exposure sources, and radiation protection
- Differentiate between a Dirty Bomb, IND, and Medical/Industrial Radiation Exposures
- Be familiar with the North Carolina Burn Program's Protocols, Radiation Consideration
